Run, sweat, and inspire!

Join us this NAIDOC Week as we celebrate with movement.

Distances: 3km | 5km | 10km | Half Marathon | Marathon

The #RunSweatInspire Festival is an annual virtual running and walking event in celebration of NAIDOC Week. In 2023, NAIDOC Week is held from Sunday 2 July to Sunday 9 July. This year’s NAIDOC Week theme is ‘For Our Elders’, and we look forward to sharing more about this and amplifying the voices of some of the Elders in our running and walking community. Watch this space!

Our virtual event means you can run or walk when and where you like. Choose your distance and complete your run or walk on a date during NAIDOC Week that works for you, at your favourite location!

All registrations for the #RunSweatInspire Festival will receive a special event participation medal designed by an Aboriginal artist. This is one you won’t want to miss. Medal and artist reveal coming soon!

Each registration supports the Indigenous Marathon Foundation to continue changing lives through running. Check out some of our stories here.

All registrants will receive weekly newsletters with training and recovery tips to get you ready for your virtual event, including advice from world marathon champion, our Founder Rob de Castella.

If you’re new to running and don’t know where to start, we have you covered. Check out our beginner 5km and 10km training plans.

If you are part of a Corporate Group wishing to participate, please complete this group interest form so we can support you to get up and running (pardon the pun!)

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is NAIDOC Week?

NAIDOC Week is observed across Australia each July to celebrate the histories, cultures, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The week is a great opportunity for all Australians to engage with activities and content to learn more and take action. For more information, visit the National NAIDOC Week website.

Can anyone participate in the #RunSweatInspire Festival?

Absolutely! Our event is open to everybody, no matter where you are in the world. Run, walk, ride or roll – whatever it takes to get moving.

Where should I participate in my walk or run?

You can complete your activity anywhere! Choose a safe, traffic/obstacle free, and well-lit course to run or walk on. We encourage group participation as well.

Am I eligible for a discount fee?

If you identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person or are a member of an IMF RAW Group, there is a discount code available for your entry. Please email info@imf.org.au to obtain this code.

What is STRAVA? And how do I get involved?

STRAVA is an app that you can download for free that helps you track your weekly, monthly, and yearly walking and running training. We encourage you to join The IMF #RunSweatInspire Festival Strava Club and find your distance for this event. Maybe you want to race to the top of the leader board, or just gain some inspiration.

Is the #RunSweatInspire Festival a competitive event?

Only if you make it one! You can cover your chosen distance in one hit, or you can string it out over the course of NAIDOC Week. We just encourage participation but chase that top of the Strava leader board if that’s what you’re after!

When will my medal be sent out?

Medals will be sent out starting from July.

What does my entry fee and/or donation go towards?

Apart from covering some small costs associated with the NAIDOC #RunSweatInspire Festival itself, your entry fee and/or donation will go towards providing support to Rob de Castella’s Indigenous Marathon Foundation’s (IMF) operations across Australia. With a growing list of Indigenous Marathon Project Graduates (132 and counting) and ever-expanding IMF Running & Walking Programs in over forty communities across Australia – the need for funds to continue the IMF’s work across Australia is super important. Your support is hugely appreciated!
