2km Kids Colour Dash / 5km Fun Run / 10km Fun Run
The Father’s Day WARRIOR Run was established by Rob de Castella’s Indigenous Marathon Foundation (IMF) in 2015 to acknowledge and celebrate men as protectors, providers and positive leaders. Over the years, the event – usually held in Sydney – has evolved to feature an Indigenous-focused festival as a way to offer a unique cultural experience to people from all walks of life.
This year, to adapt to the constantly changing environment Australia finds itself in, the IMF has decided to do things differently. There’s nothing stopping us from virtually and collectively running and walking together on Father’s Day and continue to celebrating the strong men in our lives throughout the week. Run wherever you are in the world. All entries include an exclusive medal with free Australia-wide postage. (International postage is available but will incur a fee.)
2km Family Dash Hit the ground running with your family, perfect to get the kids and the grandparents active! Cost: $20 per person
5km Fun Run After a bit more of a challenge? Walk or run the 5km at your own pace. Cost $40 per person
10km Fun Run Still want more? Compete with people from around the country – and the world – in our only competitive event. Cost $40 per person

What is the IMF Father’s Day WARRIOR Run?
The IMF Father’s Day WARRIOR Run was established by Rob de Castella’s Indigenous Marathon Foundation (IMF) in 2015 to acknowledge and celebrate men as protectors, providers, and positive leaders. Over the years, the event – usually held in Sydney – has evolved to feature an Indigenous-focused festival as a way to offer a unique cultural experience to people from all walks of life.
Each year, an exceptional male role model is selected as the ‘face’ of the WARRIOR Run finishers medal. These men are selected based on the significant contributions they make to their community, as a leader and role model.
Participants can register for the event by selecting one of three running/walking options – 2km “Family Dash”, 5km & 10km run.
Everyone who registers to participate will receive an exclusive medal with free Australia-wide postage. A flat rate of $20 postage for international participants will apply.
Can anyone participate in the IMF Father’s Day WARRIOR Run?
Absolutely! No matter where you are based- in Australia or around the world.
*please ensure you abide by the relevant State & Federal health guidelines, as advised for each State or Territory within Australia, or the relevant guidelines as advised for the respective jurisdiction of the country you reside – for those participating outside of Australia.
Am I eligible for a discount fee?
If you identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, or are a member of a Deadly Running Group, there is a discount code available for your entry. Please email info@imf.org.au to obtain this code and specify which Deadly Running Group you are a member of (if necessary).
Is the IMF Father’s Day Warrior Run a competitive event or can you participate just for fun?
If you want to participate for fun – great! The 10k distance is the only event where the top three placegetters for each age category (see below), both male and female, will be awarded a prize.
Results will need to be recorded (screen shot or photo of timed run and distance on watch face or other device) and emailed to info@imf.org.au or screen shot your run and post on the Father’s Day WARRIOR Run STRAVA Club under the ‘Posts’ tab. Don’t forget to include your order confirmation number (#xxxxx) which can be found on the email notification you receive once you have registered.
For multiple runners under the one order number, please assign an alphabetical letter at end of order confirmation number – for each runner, in descending order, from first person listed on confirmation email down to the last person registered. Eg. for a family of four:
Bob Smith – order confirmation number = #00121A
Lisa Smith – order confirmation number = #00121B
Tom Smith – order confirmation number = #00121C
Holly Smith – confirmation order number = #00121D
Results must be posted or emailed by Monday 7th September at 12pm. We will announce the top 3 placegetters for each age category, for both male and female participants, on Tuesday 8th September. All placegetters will be contacted directly.
Everyone, across all three event distances are encouraged to post your run/walk on the Father’s Day WARRIOR Run STRAVA Club – including images – whether you are running competitively, or just for fun.
There will be no prizes awarded or results posted for the 2k or 5k event distances.
Every participant, across all three event distances, will receive a medal.
What are the age categories for each event if I choose to compete in the 10k?
1st, 2nd & 3rd placegetter prizes are awarded in each age group for male and female participants:
Junior – 18 years and under (as on 6 September 2020)
Senior – 19-40 years (as on 6 September 2020)

What is STRAVA? And how do I get involved?
STRAVA is an app that you can download for free that helps you track your weekly, monthly, and yearly walking and running training. IMF has several STRAVA groups- one specific to IMF Father’s Day WARRIOR Run Club, one that is IMF’s Official Club page and other Club pages specific to the different IMF activities & events. We encourage you to sign up to both and get involved online.
Where does my entry fee and/or donation go towards?
Funds raised from this event will go towards delivering Community WARRIOR Run events on Father’s Day and throughout the month of September.
We are working with over 50 of IMF’s Deadly Running Groups across Australia to organise fun runs in their local communities, bringing people of all ages and abilities together to run in celebration of the great men in their lives.
The IMF will support each community to deliver these events. Event Kits will be provided to each participating community, consisting of: event signage, race bibs, race prizes and medals, course markers, hand sanitisers, basic care packs, colour powder, vouchers for refreshment stations and more.
